Leader in Me DonationLongtime supporter of the students of the Clear Creek Independent School District, the Space Center Rotary Club recently committed $60,000 to bring The Leader In Me program to Space Center Intermediate.

Clear Creek ISD is in its third year of progressively implementing The Leader In Me program at its schools. The Leader In Me program is a whole school transformation process that teaches 21st century leadership and life skills to students. The program creates a culture of student empowerment based on the idea that every child can be a leader. This mindset leads to observable improvements in the academic, behavioral and social wellbeing of participating students.

Space Center Intermediate will be the first CCISD intermediate school to fold the program into its academic and leadership development campus culture. The program is currently in full implementation at Falcon Pass Elementary, in year two at Armand Bayou Elementary, and launching this year at Bay Elementary, McWhirter Elementary and Whitcomb Elementary.

“The Leader In Me unites our community with the school house in a very meaningful and tangible way,” said CCISD Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Greg Smith. “Education-minded businesses, cities and organizations, like the Space Center Rotary, are taking note of the immense program benefits to their future residents and employees and are stepping up to underwrite a portion of the cost. Clear Creek ISD is fortunate to be at the center of a community with the vision and motivation to equip our students with vital tools and resources needed for success in the 21st century,” he said.

The Clear Creek Education Foundation (CCEF) partners with the District to help fund a portion of program costs as well as identify future partners to support the expansion of the program at additional schools. CCEF sponsored the launch of the first two programs at Falcon Pass Elementary and Armand Bayou Elementary.

Full program implementation takes three years, so the Rotary pledged $20,000 a year to support the school’s phased adoption of The Leader In Me.

“This year, our Club was specifically challenged to ‘be the inspiration’,” said Space Center Rotary Club President, Nancy Anderson. “This program serves as a wise investment and conduit for today’s Space Center Rotary leaders to help inspire and lay the groundwork for tomorrow’s leaders.”

The Space Center Rotary Club also impacts CCISD students at the elementary level through the EarlyAct FirstKnight program at Whitcomb Elementary School. Since 2012, the EarlyAct FirstKnight program and Space Center Rotarians have helped young students develop excellent personal qualities that have proven to reduce disciplinary referrals, bullying and increase teaching time. At the high school level, Space Center Rotary supports and sponsors an Interact club at Clear Lake and Clear View high schools. Interact clubs bring together young people to develop leadership skills while discovering the power of Service Above Self. Through their Space Center Rotary Endowment Foundation, the Club awards vocational scholarships to deserving seniors.
